About Us

Plain Peanuts was founded in the early 1990s by Bobby and Jean Salter, who worked tirelessly to build a small-town shop into a business recognized across the country. Their dedication and love for Southern tradition made Plain Peanuts famous for its crispy fried peanuts, homemade peanut brittle, and rich, creamy peanut butter ice cream. These original recipes—loved by locals and visitors alike—are still used today.

Located in the heart of historic Plains, Georgia—the hometown of the 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter—Plain Peanuts has become a beloved stop for travelers and locals alike.

On January 13, 2024, Ken and Amy Greene proudly became the new owners of Plain Peanuts. Ken grew up just down the road in Americus, Georgia, and Amy is from nearby Lumpkin. They met in college in Americus in 1992 and were married in 1997. For the past 25 years, they've made their home in Lumpkin, always knowing they’d one day return to the area that brought them together.

Taking over Plain Peanuts brings them one step closer to that dream. Ken and Amy are excited to carry on the legacy that Bobby and Jean built—committed to preserving the recipes and values that make Plain Peanuts special, while continuing to grow and share its story with even more peanut lovers across the country.
